Hello everybody,
We all know this, but how many of you actually are as organised as you should be? I am not. I am purposely posting this later than normal to prove some factors of organisation.
What is Organisation?
- The act or process of organizing.
- The state or manner of being organized: a high degree of organization.
- Something that has been organized or made into an ordered whole.
- Something made up of elements with varied functions that contribute to the whole and to collective functions; an organism.
- A group of persons organized for a particular purpose; an association: a benevolent organization.
- A structure through which individuals cooperate systematically to conduct business.
- The administrative personnel of such a structure.

Yet another word with loads of meanings, maybe I should have asked you all what you think of this one too! Today we are mainly going to be talking about number 1 on the list. Now we know what it means, how can we do it?
How can You be Organised?
There are hundreds of books on this subject, so I suggest trying to read some of those. But I am going to list, and try to rank, 10 different methods of organisation.
- Know what you are going to do. This could include a to-do list at the beginning of everyday or maybe a gantt chart. A good idea if you are doing either of these are to make sure you know which tasks are important and which are urgent.
- Plan your time carefully. For some people, planning time is easy. However, if you have a family, be it your children or your parents, then you will often find your plans are messed up as they might want to do something. I recommend doing all urgent and important things first while you definitely have time without having anyone change the plans. Also, ask them what their plans are!
- Do everything in advance. As you will soon see, if you leave something too long then there may be problems.
- Be alert. If you wake up early then you will have more time and be more awake to do the things you need to do. Good ways to do this are: wake up early, eat a healthy breakfast and exercise.
- Do not set ridiculous deadlines! If you do this it will make you feel like you are failing when you are not.
- Be happy!! You will never be 100% organised if you are stressed.
- Be ready. If something happens there is a chance you will not be able to get any work done for days, you need to be ready for this. Which strongly relates to number 3.
- Do not get distracted. If you are like me you write your posts or essay, or whatever you are writing, whilst listening to music, talking on msn and using facebook or twitter. Don’t. A good idea is to unplug your internet while you write, though can be inappropriate.
- Ask for help. Some people are very good at helping to organise other people, use them!
- Do it. It may sound silly but many people, including myself, are very organised and know what to do when.. but don’t actually do it! You need to, otherwise there would be no point of me writing this post to help you.
What Could Happen if You are Not Organised?
Well this is what I am proving to you by making this late.
- People ask what is happening. Where is the post? Why is it late?
- Feedburner sends out the RSS even though it is not out yet! Then it does not send when the post is out!
- You cannot be trusted as much.
- Your reputation is ruined.
I hoped you found this post and demonstration very useful.
Thank you,
Shane
