In this post, Shannon Lilly of Infected By Bugs tells us what he thinks about guest posting.
Hello everyone,
Shane asked me to write a guest post, I said why not? This brings me to the question for this post, should we be writing guest posts for anyone who asks? I am asked to Guest Post every other day it seems like these days and I just love being asked. Most of you would probably be excited to but remember, I have written guest posts on every major mmo blog on the net including JohnChow and Marketing Pilgrim (the two largest).
As of late I have been focusing big time on social media and guest posting fits right into the formula. Guest posting is one of the best ways to get your name out there on the big name sites and in return you are building your brand.
Self branding is going to be huge in the years to come and using your name is the easiest way to do that. Am I saying you should go out and buy yourname.com? Yes!
Back on topic though, guest posting is a vital part of pitching your name out into the blogosphere, your question may be (who do we guest post for). Well, its hard to know who is worth guest posting for and who is not. I generally like to look at the person behind the blog I’m considering, are they a go getter or a lazy potato chip eater? What are there goals for their blog?
If these questions are not answered on there about page I would say skip them (but make your own judgement call).
My thought process is simple, if you guest post on every blog you possibly can the winners will show through (then you can become a regular guest poster, maybe once or twice a month).
Its a great way to get traffic and gain new readers!
I would love to know your thoughts on this subject as well, feel free to comment below (visit my blog) and let me know what you think! Every opinion matters and yours does to!
