I have no idea what the rest of the world is like, but if you live in the United Kingdom then you will know exactly what I am speaking about… it is cold!
Now, you may remember me mentioning Times When You Just Can’t Help But Smile which was when I was adoring the first little dash of snow last month (which I still love looking at now!) but that was nothing compared to what it is like now. Schools have been shut, a lot of people have not been able to get food… it has only been a few days but the UK is going mad!
Why am I writing about the snow this time? Because the same thing that is turning us brits crazy (as if we needed any help!) is the thing that is either the make or brake of almost everything – be it a new CEO of a large company or even ‘just’ a new blog design – and that thing (did you guess it?) is CHANGE!
Some people say they love change, many hate it, but no matter what your opinion of change is… it affects you in someway.
Going back to the snow, very few of us are used to lots of snow (and by lots, I mean more than we usually have so nothing compared to a lot of you!) and even less were prepared for it. We were not expecting the sudden change. People are scared to drive in it, those that try are getting stuck (I have heard many stories about cars getting stuck, one managed to park in a Tesco car park and walked the 3 miles to his house). This change in the weather has caused a lot of problems for a lot of people. I got to college one day this week (though mind you, Monday was a “Teacher Training Day” so I was not due in then), I am one of the many students that have exams next week… during the time that the weather is meant to be even worse! But I think we might manage it… because people are getting used to it and are understanding how we can get back to normal.
So, how can you prepare for change? Everybody has different ways of doing this, some more effective than others. Personally, I would suggest having a look at what you predict could change and solve the future problems… but of course that would rarely work! Instead, rather than planning how to solve change, plan generic soloutions.
For example, if you run a blog and ‘for some unknown reason’ you could not have internet access, what could you do? Write articles in advance, have somebody else that could write them for you or atleast write one saying you cannot post for a certian amount of time, et cetera et cetera.
Do you already have these contingency plans? Let us know!
