Windows Live spaces started before 2006, they had an older sort of thing at the time which was blogs that were commented but you could share things like photos etc.

That could have been a major start because I remember nothing of the sort and I used it a fair bit.

Nice write up as always.</description>

As for how they got to their success? They all get brought back to the one point:
The Users keep coming back. As long as they keep coming back Social Networking sites like the Twitter&#039;s, MySpace&#039;s and Facebook&#039;s won&#039;t be going anywhere any time soon.</description>
