I would agree with your comment. The key is to have like you said the short and long term goals and the key is to write them down and keep them in front of you every day. I think the next big thing is ACTION and that's where 90 percent of the people fail. They spend more time planning a holiday than they do their life. While I will agree it is hard to know some times where you want to be at a young age you seem to have yourself at least pointed to where you want to go. I started out to learn computors years ago and spent a career as a firefighter. I tried the first job and found my calling. Now time to work on the second calling. Cheers

I completely agree that very few people plan enough, if anything. However, one thing Gary Vaynerchuk mentioned (cannot remember when, possibly the french conference?) was that everybody is taught to write like a 3 year plan even though things (especially technology) are changing weekly let alone yearly! So it is more important to plan for short term than long term. If you plan short then your long term goals should easilly be achieved and surpassed.

Having a good plan for the up and coming year is always the best way to get started. Ask ten people what their plans are for the year let alone the future and only two will have any idea. There's a saying that goes (those without a vision shall perish ) and it comes from the bible. All that matters is weather you care enough to start from where you are at and do some thing every day towards your goals and dreams. You look to be well on your way and best of luck for the future.
